Second Anniversary Game of Centenary Year

On Wednesday 5th July we held the second Anniversary game of our Centenary Year with a visit from the Hertfordshire Bowls Team. This was led by both the men's president Tom Phipps and the Lady's president Anne Hudson, who both also attended our inaugural game of the season when the President and Captain's team locked horns on the rink. The Herts Bowls team, comprised bowlers from clubs throughout the County, and there were some familiar faces among them who had previously played in the Bowls England side.

After the usual "Spider" start, the format of the afternoon's programme was six mixed rinks, forty eight players on the green at the same time. A magnificent sight, and the weather remained kind throughout. There were some close games, all played in the right spirit, and plenty of fun, but the County team prevailed, and walked away with a victory.

After some well deserved refreshments, both teams and reserve players adjourned to the main club house for a splendid three course meal, followed by thankyou speeches, exchange of gifts and pennants, and the customary raffle. Thankfully the speeches were short and to the point, emphasising how much everyone had enjoyed the day, and recognising the great efforts of everyone involved in the organisation of the event.

As previously we like to donate some of the money raised to charity, so this time a share of the proceeds from "The Spider" were donated to The M S Society.
