Last summer, as part of our centenary year celebrations, we hosted a team from the Chelsea Pensioners. On 7th of August this summer, 24 bowlers and supporters from our club travelled by coach to the Chelsea Pensioners Hospital site for a return match.
And what great day we all had!
The visit started with a 90 minute guided tour of the grounds and buildings with one of the Pensioners regaling us with full details of the origins, development and use of the historical site from the 1600's right up to the present day.
Then, after a cuppa (or a drink from their very impressive bar), we played a friendly and enjoyable game of bowls on their 4 rink green.
There followed a meal in their period dining room which reminded us of the main hall at Hogwarts from Harry Potter!
We then retired to their bar for drinks with the usual formalities and we all left for home knowing that we had taken part in a very special day made possible by our most accommodating hosts.
