Fun Day 25th July

We held our second Fun Day of the season on Sunday 25th July. Despite weather forecasts showing the probability of rain, we were very fortunate that the weather held until late afternoon after which the heavens opened.

With the help of a grant from Sports England, we have managed to ensure that there is adequate outside seating, and plenty of hand sanitiser spread around so that everyone can feel safe at all times.

33 members joined in, including a number of our 20 new members, so it was another great opportunity for new and old to meet in a fun environment and play together. We had 2 morning sessions of 9 ends and the same for the afternoon, but had to curtail the final session when the rain set in. With rinks and positions drawn for each of these, it meant that teams changed each time, so everyone had a better chance of getting to know one another.

After prize money had been paid out, we raised over £355 to go towards our centenary fund, in readiness for our Centenary Year Celebrations in 2023. Part of this was raffle money for prizes kindly donated by Tescos. We also raised additional money for charity and donated £48 to The Transverse Myelitis Society, the charity chosen by Barry Turner, our winning Top Shot for the day. The winning Top Shot prize was kindly sponsored by Jean Emmons.

The rink bowled really well, as always Ivor did a fantastic job keeping the bar running all day, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed Marie's homemade cakes, with their coffee and lunch breaks. Despite the late rain, a great day was had by all, and if we can, we hope to be able to fit one more Fun Day in, before the season ends. Keep an eye out on the website for the next opportunity to join us.
