Fun Day 6th June

We held our first Fun Day of the season on Sunday last week, and were very fortunate that the weather remaind kind all day.

With the help of a grant from Sports England, we have managed to ensure that there is adequate outside seating, umbrellas to provide shade, and plenty of hand santiser spread around so that everyone can feel safe at all times.

28 members joined in, including a number of our 17 new members, so it was a great opportunity for new and old to meet in a fun environment and play together. We had 2 morning sessions of 8 ends and the same for the afternoon. With rinks and positions drawn for each of these, it meant that teams changed each time, so everyone had a better chance of getting to know one another. We were also joined in the afternoon by some people who wanted to try out the game, and some of our bowlers looked after them why they had a go on one of the spare rinks. Hopefully, we'll see some of them back at the club some time.

After prize money had been paid out we raised over £160 to go towards our centenary fund, in readiness for our Centenary Year Celebrations in 2023. We also raised additional money for charity and donated £30 to The Transverse Myelitis Society, the charity chosen by Jan Hegarty, our winning Top Shot for the day.

The rink bowled really well, and Ivor did a fantastic job keeping the bar running all day. A great day was had by all, and we very much look forward to repeating the experience again in the not too distant future. Keep an eye out on the website for the next opportunity to join us.
