Summer Fun 2020

We were able to enjoy some bowling fun throughout the summer, despite the restrictions of Covid 19. Bowls England recommendations were put in place with facilities to disinfect our hands and equipment such as mats and jacks.

Fred Cable organised a drive on Tuesday afternoons. Using just 3 rinks to maintain social distancing, we played triples and most weeks had enough players to fill the three rinks and some weeks some players chose to play half a game to accommodate the extra numbers. Bowlers selected a token to determine which team and rink they played on and players rotated every six ends to give everyone a turn at lead, 2 and skip –good experience for some of our newer bowlers! The weather was amazing and these afternoons gave us all a chance to enjoy some fun during this difficult summer. The new bar steward, Kevin agreed to open the bar for us at 5.30 on Tuesdays and some of us were able to enjoy a nice cold drink afterwards.

We also enjoyed a couple of Saturday fun days which Ray Facer arranged for the 5th & 26th of September. Dress code for the two days was colourful for the first day and flamboyant for the second! We played four, nine end games during the day and again, for each game we picked tokens to determine the team, rink and position we played. The weather continued to be amazing and we were able to enjoy our own refreshments while sitting out on our brand new tables and chairs. We started the day with a spider and John Bishop arranged a few competitions for us all, such as pick the top shot, pick the highest winning rink, etc. This, together with John’s infamous fines regime enabled us to raise some money for charity.
